the pomodoro technique
how to stop procrastinating and get more done
Do you want to get more done in less time? Do you find yourself always procrastinating? Do you want to learn how to structure your day? Well lucky for you, today we will be learning about the pomodoro technique! As humans one of our biggest problems is that we procrastinate. We always say “we’ll do it tomorrow” but that’s not good enough, I believe the reason why we do this is because of the pressure to perform tasks and in this our tasks become very daunting so we pass them of for another day. If you can relate to this it might be because your not working smartly. You might be working hard but you will End up burning yourself out. We often have these feelings of low will power right before we start a task coincidentally! A way you can get around this is using the pomodoro technique! Which is a way of breaking down tasks into smaller chunks keeping your productiveness high throughout. And enabling us enter a flow state. So how do you do it?

  1. chose a task: 1 task, 1 purpose, when we have a list of lots of different things we need to do, our mind wonders and we get distracted not truly focusing on 1 task
  2. traditionally the pomodoro technique is 25 minutes long, so what you will do is set a timer for 25 minutes to give your full attention to your one task. to limit distractions turn your phone off, if your using your phone or any other technology for your task which you probably are, turn airplane mode on or turn off your notifications. if you still get distracted by a passing thought which isn't a problem, just simply write it down on a piece of paper and go back to it later.
  3. when the timer goes of after 25 minutes you have 5 minutes break where you can get a drink or look at your distraction.
  4. repeat this 3 more times adding up to 2 hours of work and rest.  after this have a long break around 30 minutes to 1 hour, once you've done this you can repeat another set but its totally up to you!
there's lots of different techniques that you can use that we'll be looking at in the following weeks, but i think it's important to find what suits you best, some techniques will take a lot of will power and others not as much, it just depends on what your using it for, you can always change if one isn't working out for you! i would say this is one of the easiest ones so i would recommend starting with this one!
