Jim Kwik's morning routine to become a genius
Who is Jim kwik?
Jim Kwiks morning routine for geniuses
1. Dream Journaling
As soon as he wakes up, the first thing that Jim does is write down his dreams in a dream journal. When you live a life like Jim’s, with all the big seminars, business deals and long meetings, your mind continues to work whilst you sleep. When working on a big project or trying to solve a problem, you often come up with your best ideas and solutions as your brain drifts through the different stages of consciousness when you sleep, allowing you to gain insight into your problems better than when you are awake.
2. Make your bed
Making your bed is a great way to start of your day, not only are you creating a clean environment so that you can focus better but, you’re also beginning your day with discipline. How you do anything, is how you do everything and by making your bed in the morning you are building the momentum of success to carry you on throughout the day.
3. Drink water
After a long night of restorative sleep, your body loses lots of fluid and can easily become dehydrated, in fact, 73% of your brain is made up of water and just by being 2% more dehydrated, can have a negative effect on brain function. A large glass of water will do the trick in helping rehydrate. Along with this, Jim takes his supplements, prebiotics and probiotics.
4. Breathing exercise
Breathing keeps you alive and Is vital for your overall health yet, the way that you breathe is something that is often overlooked. There are many different breathing exercises out there, from the wim hof method to box breathing. Jim explains that he does something called alpha breathing:
- Put your tongue to the roof of your mouth and push it backwards.
- Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds.
- Hold your breath for 4 seconds.
- Lastly, exhale for 4 seconds.
- Repeat 9 more times.
5. Brain tea recipe
Like many people around the world, Jim likes to start of his day with a nice cup of tea but, it’s not just any cup of tea. Jim’s brain tea consists of a mixture of Gingko Biloba, Gotu Kola, MCT coconut oil, raw honey, lion’s mane mushrooms and hot water.
6. Journaling
Whilst sipping on his warm tea, Jim likes to journal. Journaling is a very popular habit amongst, CEO’s, entrepreneurs and famous geniuses but, is it that they journal because they are geniuses or do they become geniuses because they journal? Well, lots of research suggests that Journaling and reflecting on your thoughts helps you track your day to day living, prioritize your goals and improve your mental health. Jim isn’t too strict on which type of journal he uses so, we would advise that you do gratitude journaling with the 5 minute journal.
7. To-do lists
Not only does Jim write down 3 personal goals and 3 professional goals for himself to achieve by the end of the day with his to do list but, he also has other lists to work at his optimal level.
- Not to-do list: In a world fascinated with productivity, we’re always trying to do more with our time and be more efficient when in fact, we need to do less. Try and get rid of all the distractions and bad habits in your life, a great way to do this is with a not to do list.
- To-feel list: This is all about writing down how you want to feel that day. We’re emotional creatures and our minds are very powerful when it comes to controlling our mood. Do you want to feel powerful? Connected? or maybe loved?
- To-be list: Where not human doings, we’re human beings! so, who do you want to be today? A good partner? Hard worker? or a strong leader? By writing down who you want to be today, you are affirming to your brain that you should uphold the standards and qualities of that person.
8. Cold shower
A bit like marmite in the sense that you either love it or hate it, Jim heads to his bathroom to have a cold shower! Think about when you injure yourself, what do you do? You put an ice pack on it to reduce the swelling, well… just like your body, your brain also can become inflamed and by exposing it to cold water you can eliviate this build-up of inflammation.
9. Brush teeth
Although this habit is on most people’s morning to-do list, Jim takes this one step further by brushing his teeth with his non-dominant hand, meaning that if you are right handed, you brush with your left hand and if you’re left handed, you brush with your right hand. Jim doesn’t do this just for the sake of it either, there’s some scientific research that shows that by training your motor skills with something like juggling, you can improve your brain.
10. Workout
Jim likes to get his heart beating and his blood pumping around his body with a light workout, it could simply be some jumping jacks, press ups or a quick high intensity training. Nothing to much, as he exercises later on in the day.
11. Brain power smoothie
Smoothies are a great way of consuming all the important nutrients that you need in a quick, easy and tasty fashion and that’s why we create our own list of super smoothies! The best thing about smoothies is that you can cater the ingredients to your needs, for example, if you’re trying to build muscle, you can make a protein smoothie with ingredients like spinach or Greek yogurt or both if you’re that way inclined! If you’re trying to become a genius, you need to feed your brain with the healthy nutrients it requires.
Jim kwik’s brain power smoothie recipe ingredients:
- 1/2 of an avocado
- 1/4 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 handful of green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale)
- A small handful of walnuts (soaked overnight)
- 1 tbsp raw cacao
- 1-2 cups of nut milk of choice or coconut water
12. Reading
Readers become leaders but, most people struggle to stay consistent with it. All it takes is 30 minutes every morning and you can read a whole book in 1 week!
13. Brain training
The memory expert has to keep his brain in tip-top condition and he does this by exercising it with his brain training games, like speed reading and memory challenges on his website. Just like your body, you need to work out your brain constantly to help it grow and get stronger.

Hi Jim,
Would you please share with us how you make your brain tea?
