Have you ever ridden a bicycle? I’m talking about without stabilizers, they’re cheating. You lean to far one way and you fall off, life is very much the same, you need to find balance! You start doing to much of one thing and you forget to do all the other things, this is one of the dangers of self improvement.
You might still be at school or you’re in your early adult hood and you get asked that age old question “what do you want to be when you get older.” Yes, I do think questions like this are important to ask yourself such as, “what is my purpose”
but I think It’s about what you seek, not what you want to be, that matters. You could be the best nurse in the world but in England you will get paid next to nothing or you could be the richest person in the world and feel the loneliest
person inside, we’ve seen this so many times before with celebrity suicide’s at an all time high, you think they have everything but in their eyes they have nothing.
When you start adding everything together, pulling your problems apart until you find the root of the cause, you will often find that is the result of at least one of four things… these are what I like to call the big four or more commonly known as the four pillars to a good life. I believe this idea was first brought to us by the great entrepreneur Tai Lopez but it has been altered and improved for different uses many times, but the main principles remain the same, I use these like a guideline for self improvement, you’re probably told all the time to improve but, what areas of your life should you actually improve on? And that’s where these come in…
The four pillars of a good life
This consists of health, wealth, love and happiness. These are the areas in which you should focus on to improve your life for the better. If you work on these four areas equally you will live a more balanced lifestyle and become a well rounded person, ultimately leading to you being happy and successful!
How can I live a good life?
You actually get asked this question quite a lot, you just don’t notice it, often the answers are hidden in the question themselves. Let me give you some examples:
Talking to a nutritionist: You’ll hear questions like “are you eating junk food?”
Talking to a financial advisor: They might ask you “are you budgeting your income?”
Talking to your mum: She’ll probably ask you if you’ve found that special someone.
Talking to a psychologist: They will ask if you’re taking time to appreciate the little things in life.
The answers are there waiting for you, you just need to pick them up, but you need to pick them up together because on their own they suck! You need to take a holistic view on your life taking every aspect in to account, not just focusing on one thing, remember small steps are better than no steps. So what are the four things you should focus on?
Health, wealth, love and happiness
This one is quite simple but there’s two types of health you need to consider, physical health and mental health. Let’s first look at physical health in more detail, the two key components of this are nutrition and exercise, so firstly are you eating right? Everyone is on a different diet, which is fine, we all need different nutrition. One thing we can all agree on is to stop eating junk food or at least cut down as much as you can. I know it’s hard because its everywhere you go but try pulling back on processed and sugary food. Stay hydrated and try drinking as much water as possible, by staying hydrated your helping the nutrients travel around your body more efficiently, helping your mood, keeping your muscles energized and various other things. “What do i need my muscles energized for?” I hear you ask… exercise! Now there’s so many different exercise routines for different types of goals so ill leave you in the hands of an expert
but I do think you should try and exercise at least three times a week to keep strong and healthy. Not only does exercise help keep you fit, it also helps create lots of endorphins that make you feel good. And for the mental side of health, you can do many things like meditating, Reading and you can try and work out my weekly brain teasers every Tuesday on Instagram. You can also read this blog on 10 scientific ways to train your brain.
Below you will find a book from my good friend Ali where he will help you lose weight (the right way) and teaches you the truth about the supplements that are forced upon you. I’ve also put some other books below which are all great for your mental and physical health.
Money isn’t everything but it’s like oxygen if you want to live “the good life“ so you need to know how to make it. There’s all sorts of ways to make money and I definitely think you should do what you love whilst you’re at it. Here’s some ideas of ways to make money, especially if your younger and don’t want to join the rat race of working 9-5.
Wealth isn’t all about being a billionaire it’s about having what the rich don’t have, things like manners, more freedom and the ability and the want to help others.
Here’s the very first book I read and funnily enough it’s all about how to think and grow rich.
I’ve also included some more books about wealth if you want to buy them, remember knowledge is wealth!
“love cures people, both the ones who give and the ones who receive it.” – Dr Karl Menninger. Love is one of the strongest emotions in the world but there’s not much of it being shared, that’s my challenge to you, go out and love! It’s not all about the soppy romance we see on TV either, that’s not real. Love doesn’t even have to be romantic it can be with friends, family and even learning to love yourself! It’s about feeling connected and truly accepting who you are.
So my lovely just for you I’ve liked some book, all written in the language of love x.
Happiness… what I and many see as the ultimate goal in life, yet most of us never find it. According to the world health organization
more than 300 million people of all ages are diagnosed with depression, let that sink in. You need to take back control of your own life and be happy. Most people think you need the other three pillars (health, wealth and love) to be happy and although these do help significantly, that’s not necessarily true, it’s all about perspective, you could have all the money in the world and still not be happy. You can’t expect loved ones to make you happy either, it’s up to you. I know someone very close to home who’s got a disability and doesn’t let it stop him. The world is what you make of it, make it a happy one!
Here’s some books to help improve your happiness.
You’ll often find that these 4 pillars interlink like how doing exercise can make you feel happier. Here’s a bonus tip or you could say an extra pillar and that’s…
There’s a difference between knowledge and wisdom, wisdom is like having knowledge and then connecting the dots. If you’re wise you have the knowledge to stay healthy, be happy, financially independent and have good relationships with your loved ones. We often think of wisdom as a skill only older people, but that doesn’t have to be the case, you and I can both be wise, the reason why we always think older people are wise is because they have experienced all of the four pillars and are probably balanced in all areas of life. To become wise you should always consider yourself as a student and keep learning, you can read blogs
, books and watch videos. There’s so much information out there at a click of a button but, you need to apply the knowledge you have learned, there is no use for knowing these amazing things if you don’t put them into action!
